My Zine
I made this zine with a mix of my images and other peoples images. I arranged some images in diptychs as I thought they would go well together. Some images were taken with the idea of the diptych in mind and some I just put together because I thought they would look well together. The images were originally supposed to be bigger on the page but despite that I think it still came out well, possibly better. They are not full bleed, however I did want the cover to be full bleed but when it printed, it printed smaller than what was on the PDF.

Threshold Edits
I selected a few of the photographs I took to edit them in the way Keld Helmer-Petersen does. I tried to obscure the photograph not so much that it was just shapes but enough to make you question what you were looking at. To refine these images, I would take some more photographs of objects or just shapes by themselves as so when I add the threshold filter it isolates these things and creates a cool effect.
Photographing the City
We were asked to take photos in an interesting or unusual place in the city. I went to this bridge and area of shops as I barely go there even though I live close to it and it's not really a place where you would take photographs as it's not a 'pretty' area. I like the photographs I've taken as I think they are interesting and create an interesting picture of an area which is usually 'ugly'. If I were to refine these images I would go to a different area in the city as at first I found it difficult to find things to take photos of but as I got going I took over 70 photographs.
Zine 2
For this zine, I decided to stitch the pages together instead of stapling them as I thought it would look nicer and would bound the book well. I also added a pop-up picture in the middle of the book to make the book more interesting. I think it adds another dimension to the book and I think it was successful. If I were to do it again, I would make the pictures that are on the same page work better as diptychs. I wasn't sure how to do it at the time so all the photographs are mixed together.
Zine 3
I used an online template and edited it on photoshop to create this zine. I used the edited photographs from my black light images as I thought they would look nice all together. I tried to arrange them in different ways with one on one spread or two but placed differently. I think this zine came out really well and I like the way it flows.
Max Pinckers - The Fourth Wall
The photographer incorporates text in his book with zoomed in text from a book or newspaper. The text is across two pages and is very large. Another thing about the text is that it gets bigger as the book progresses. This is an unusual way of incorporating text as usually photographers will make the text small and is sometimes in the photographs themselves. The photographs are on thin paper, the same paper that newspapers are printed on. He uses image and text to blur reality and fiction as an approach to documentary by mixing them together. It reminds you that these photographs are real and of real people who have their own lives.
The Photographer’s Gallery
I went to the photographer’s gallery to see the The 2022 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. There were four photographer's work there. Deana Lawson, Gilles Peress, Jo Ractliffe and Anastasia Samoylova. My favourite photographer from the exhibition was Anastasia Samoylova because I loved the was she composed her photographs and the way she uses reflections to add more depth to the photographs.
